Stop Press ;p

A few weeks back my business was featured in the Nottingham Evening Post.  This is a local paper for the Nottinghamshire area.  So its kind of a big deal, seeing as the main part of my business is aimed at customers in Nottingham.  I had a double page spread in the weekend magazine.

I met the writer Riah Matthews at an event in December 2011, which i also made an appearance in the Nottingham Post.  See below, bottom right in the red dress.

Riah came and visited me in my old studio in Netherfield, since then i have moved to West Bridgford.  We talked about my love of all things vintage and mid century.

I told her how i had always had an interest in sewing as my mother was a dressmaker, you can read more about my back ground on my website.

I also explained how my hobby turned into a business all because i needed to raise the money to buy my pug, Maybellene.  Who has now turned into a business mascot and famous in her own right.  I have had really good feed back from this article, i even had someone chase me down the street to tell me they had seen me in the paper, we chatted for a while about vintage fashions and how much she loved my dresses.  I was really flattered that i had been recognised!

More of my work was featured in a one off edition of Autumn Brides, a free magazine which 5,000 copies were distributed through out the city.  It features Kate's wedding.

A massive thank you to Riah for featuring me in all these editions.  If you run a magazine or a news paper and would like to feature me, my pug and my dresses get in touch!

Red 'Cry Baby' dress

I have made a few burlesque costumes in my sewing career, i featured one for Anna Fur Laxis in this blog post about her new act, Showgirl Assassin.   I recently made this sexy red satin wrap dress for Rose Desire for her new 'Cry Baby' act.  For those not familiar with the film (i suggest go out and buy it NOW!)

For the design i had to take into account how she would remove her dress as a part of her act.

The good thing about this dress is that she can also wear it as a cocktail dress... and if she has too many cocktails, she can easily remove it!

My Turquoise and Pink Bathroom...

I recently decorated my bathroom turquoise with pink accessories.  i did want mint green but it was more blue than i expected.  it took me ages to source towels in the right shade of pink, good old ebay to the rescue!

Watching Mad Men, i am doing yet another marathon, start to season five.  i cant get enough!  I am heavily influenced by the show, from what i wear to how i furnish my home.  i didn't realise my bathroom was the same colour at Betty Drapers! Seeing as i have seen each episode at least six times, it must have sunk in subliminally.... either that or Betty Draper copied me!

But oh to have a pink bathroom suite that would be a dream!

The Gilded Merkin: Burlesque & Cabaret

The last Gilded Merkin show was back in July, i have been meaning to share with you my review and these stunning photos from Candee Piccies for a while, but due to the epic house move and sky not being helpful in regards to Internet, i am behind.  But what that does mean is i can show you them now,  then you only have to wait two weeks til the next show, 11th November.

The high light of the show was seeing Anna Fur Laxis perform for the first time.  I have been lucky enough to work closely with her in making a costume for her new act Showgirl Assassin.  At the Gilded Merkin in July, Anna performed Viva Bettie, her tribute to Bettie Page act and Memory of a Gold Fish.  Which she wore a funky custom wig by Arachnia Bt D'Licious.

The show was fantastic from beginning to end.  Fred Bear did an amazing job as compair, my face actually ached from laughing all night long, plus we got to see a little bit more of Fred Bear then he intended... hehehehe

As a dress designer i am fascinated by the costumes.  Velma Von Bon Bon, blew my mind with her fantastic flamingo act.  Loved it!  I need to make me a life size flamingo to ride around in!

I could go on and on about how great the show was.  But i think you really need to experience it for yourself.  Even if you are a burlesque virgin and not into the vintage retro pin up scene, i guarantee you, you will not be disappointed.  I had one of the best nights out in a long time.  A couple of g&ts, good company with my favourite glamorous ladies (Rose Desire and Lucille Needles) and some seriously good entertainment.

Mad for Plaid

Autumn is most defiantly here.  Plaid is one of my favourite type of fabrics to wear this time of year.  It is available in a wide range of colours and patterns.  The above dress is in black watch tartan, it is available to buy in my shop.

Black and white plaid dress, same sweat heart bodice but with two different skirts, a pencil skirt and a pleated full skirt, making it easier to ride Mavis!

Kelly sent me these images of her wearing her plaid pencil skirts.  She bought two, one in black watch and one in funky turquoise.

Plaid pencil skirt is available to buy now.  It is made to measure, so all i need are your waist measurement, hip measurement and length, from waist to hem.

Bespoke plaid orders are available in a variety of plaid colours and patterns.
