Jubilee Dress

I love making stage costumes.  I have been making burlesque costumes for a few stars of the shimmering stage, but more about them in another post!

Niamh from Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods contacted me a few weeks about having a few outfits made for her stage performances.  She wanted dresses that no one had seen before and that no one in the crowd would be wearing.  I love making one of bespoke pieces, so together we came up with some designs.  With her beautiful red hair, luscious dark green was an obvious choice.

But the construction of these dresses was put on hold when Niamh contacted me last Saturday wanting a dress for the following Saturday to wear to Jubilee performance on Carnaby street.  She gave me a brief via text message.  That Monday i ordered the fabric, made the dress on Tuesday and posted it on Wednesday.

She was trilled when it arrived, she texted me, 'you read my mind about how i wanted it to look.... so clever... and talented x.'  She then wrote on my facebook wall, 'I just can't tell you how fabulous this dress is!  So comfortable AnD looked darling... People wanted my picture BEcAUSE of the DRESS.. Nowt to do with moi!!!'

I experimented with wing tip detail on the bust, kind of like a petal for the flower.  Not having a pattern for this i drafted one up, made it in muslin first, turned out pretty cool i think!

If you weren't able to get down to London on Saturday to catch Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods.  You can catch them on Monday 4th at a Jubilee gig in Nottingham.  Even better its a free gig!  Lets hope it stops raining... good job i have red hunter wellies!
