Shaheen Crane Dress - A Tiki Summer!

I have blogged before about the King of Hawaii, Alfred Shaheen here.  I made this dress last year which was inspired by his designs.  It was not made using his prints though or origional Hawiian fabric.  It had a funky twist on the tiki and pin up theme. Photo by Samantha Gallagher Photography

I recently came across some reprints of Alfred Shaheen's original print designs for sale by one of my US suppliers.  I instantly fell in love with them, they have a distinctive original vintage feel.

I decided to purchase the cranes fabric for now.  I plan on making a similar style dress like i made before, with a wrap skirt and tight boned bodice.  I might experiment with the waterfall wrap of the skirt and bodice straps and neckline.

This isn't the first time i've used crane fabric.  I made this dress last year using the now discontinued Alexander Henry dancing cranes print.  Photo my my talented girls, Flashes and Lashes.

I am looking forward to the Alfred Shaheen fabric arriving and seeing it in the flesh.  I ordered it from the states last week and can take about two weeks for my fabric to be delivered, i cant wait! I have already planned my accessories for the dress.
